Reaching Jerusalem (Psalm 122)

Verse 1

Reaching Jerusalem filled with joy
Circled by walls with great gates of stone
Here in the place to give thanks to God
The house of the Lord was their one true home
So come home, people of God
As true worshipers together
We acclaim his grace and love
He is our hope forever

Verse 2

Joined as one people to worship God
Honoring Him as our sov’reign Lord
He will respond to our prayers for peace
And justice and goodness will be restored
So we stand in awe of God
Throned in majesty he guards us
We shall thrive, safe and secure
Protected in his presence

Verse 3

Viewing Jerusalem Jesus wept
God’s people had been so blind to peace
Though he was there with them in the flesh
So few of them saw that he brought release
See Messiah, how he comes
As a Man of Sorrows, truly
God Most High revealed to us
So gentle and so lowly

Verse 4

Pilgrims on earth we as we yearn for home
Longing for freedom from tears and pain
Seeking a kingdom unshakeable
And bound for the city where Jesus reigns
So we follow Jesus now
Choose to trust our Savior fully
He alone, the Prince of Peace
Is just and true and worthy
