On the day our Saviour died
Verse
Verse 1:
The mournful sun rose behind the hill
Three half-made crosses await their fill
Hands washed in shame, a trumped-up charge, an unfair trial
On the day our Saviour died
Verse 2:
The soldiers crafted a crown of thorns
They whipped and mocked Him, cast lots for clothes
Their duty done another traitor crucified
On the day our Saviour died
Bridge:
On that day, the darkest of days we remember, we remember (x2)
Our Saviour’s sacrifice
Verse 3:
The throngs of people all came to see
The grim exhibit - Christ’s agony
Their songs of praise had turned to hate and murderous cries
On the day our Saviour died
Verse 4:
The temple curtain was torn in two
Our separation was broken through
Christ’s work complete, friendship restored, death’s grip despised
On the day our Saviour died
On the day our Saviour died
