I'm part of a worship songwriting group, the Resound 12 Song Challenge, which encourages songwriters to write a song each month. This came out of a challenge from March of 2023, whose theme was to write a song based on one of the more unusual Psalms. Psalm 65 jumped out to me, and this was the result. It's a simple song of declaration and an invitation to worship, so it works well as an opening song in a worship set.
I'm part of a worship songwriting group, the Resound 12 Song Challenge, which encourages writers to create a worship song each month. This song came out of a challenge from June of 2023, whose theme was to write a song around the theme of "refugees". It starts as a kind of lament, acknowledging the terrible situation that many refugees and asylum seekers have come from and are going through, but progresses to fix our eyes on God as the one who protects, delivers and loves us.
This is a great song to sing as a congregation. A declaration of who we are in Christ and a real celebration. I imagined a parade processing down a street with banners and loud shouts of praise. Works well with just guitar and vocal too.
I've always loved the carol 'O Come, O Come Emmanuel' but there was a lot in there that I never really understood until adulthood. After following the United Adoration creative Advent guide I was inspired to rewrite it keeping in mind young people, teenagers and those who might be coming to Christmas services as guests. I've aimed to keep the message, story and vibe of the song whilst making it a little easier for people who aren't familiar with the language and history to understand and connect with God through it, touch on things relevant to today and leave enough room for questions to arise.
I'm very thankful to the Resound Worship 12 Song Challenge community who helped me shape and finish this song.
A song based on Acts 4, where Peter says the words "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved." The whole song is written around salvation being found in Jesus alone.
I started writing it as part of the 12 Song Challenge in 2024, where the theme was "Acts songs", i.e. a song based on a part of the book of Acts.
The recording was created (mostly) live, with only the lead guitar part being recorded separately.
This is a song that I wrote to affirm my faith and just declare what Jesus means to me. This year will be 40 years since I became a follower and still "My future, my destiny, belongs to You"
